AMISOM replaces Ethiopian troops in Goof Gaduud

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces took over control of Goof Gaduud in Somalia's Bay region on Tuesday (April 30th) after Ethiopian troops withdrew from the area, Somalia's RBC Radio reported.

AMISOM forces have set up a base in the area to prevent a takeover by al-Shabaab.

Goof Gaduud is the third town in Bay over which AMISOM assumed control as Ethiopia has begun to draw down its presence in the region.

The Somali federal government announced plans to increase its presence in Bay after al-Shabaab moved into Hudur following the Ethiopian troops' withdrawal.
