Sudan: A Positive Move towards Peaceful Conflict Resolutions
HRLHA Statement
April 6, 2013
The Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) has welcomed with appreciations the announcement made on April 1, 2013 by the Sudanese President Mr. Omar al- Bashir that his government has decided to talk with all its political opponents in order to resolve the existing political differences among themselves. According to reports by some media, President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has courageously promised in his speech to the session of his new parliament that his government will free all the political prisoners, and renew its commitment to engaging in dialogue with all political powers in the country.
This move has been taken by Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) as a big democratic change that would be replacing the political intolerance that has prevailed in the country for decades. HRLHA believes that such type of decision is a break thorough in terms of restoring peace and stability that the country has lacked almost since its independence of 1956.
HRLHA hopes that the decision made by President Omar Al-Bashir is genuine; and that the opposition political parties will accept the call for the dialogue by the President Omar al-Bashir and will play positive roles on their part .We believes this blazed initiative will help a great deal in improving the human rights situations in the country in particular and will be an exemplar to other states and governments in the region so that they start similar political dialogues with their political opponents to end the political unrest and absence of democracy in their respective country.
